Morocco is investing a massive $1.6 billion to build a brand-new terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, aiming to more than double its passenger capacity from 15 million to 35 million by 2029.
This development is part of Morocco’s broader vision to prepare for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
With millions of tourists expected to visit during and before the World Cup, the new terminal is designed to make flying into and out of Morocco smoother and faster for everyone.
What the new Casablanca terminal will include
According to ONDA (the Moroccan Airports Authority), the new terminal will feature a world-class design, smart technology, and improved passenger services.
These improved passenger services include shorter wait times, faster boarding, easier domestic connections and more.
A second, parallel runway and a new control tower are also included in this plan. But best of all for tourists is a proposed direct link to Morocco’s high-speed rail system, connecting Casablanca to other cities like Kenitra and Dakhla.

What else is being upgraded in Morocco?
The Casablanca terminal is just one piece of a bigger national transformation ahead of the 2030 World Cup:
- Marrakech Airport, already over capacity, will be expanded to handle 9.3 million passengers by 2028
- Agadir and Tangier Airports will each increase capacity from 2–2.5 million to 7 million by 2028
- Fez and Rabat Airports will expand to 5 million passengers each by 2028 and 2025, respectively
- A high-speed rail expansion will link more cities, including Marrakech
- 7,000 new urban buses will improve local transportation
- New hotels and lodging upgrades are in the works
- A mega stadium near Casablanca, which will be the world’s largest at 115,000 seats, is under construction
If you’re planning to be in Morocco during the World Cup, prepare to be graced with easier travel options and a more enjoyable experience.
