Ghanaians can now travel to Morocco visa-free

Ghana has reached a significant milestone in African diplomacy and travel freedom. In a recent Facebook post, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced a groundbreaking change: Ghanaians will no longer need traditional visas to travel to Morocco. Instead, an online authorisation will be available, typically granted within 24 hours.

This pivotal update emerged during Hon. Ablakwa’s two-day working visit to Morocco, where he met with Moroccan Foreign Minister, H.E. Nasser Bourita. The agreement, Hon. Ablakwa stated, promises to boost tourism, enhance trade, and foster closer ties between the people of both nations. Direct flights already operate between the two countries, and more are expected soon. Consequently, this new visa waiver will make travel faster, easier, and more affordable for Ghanaians.

“The borders in Africa must not divide us,” Hon. Ablakwa emphasised. “They can be bridges of connectivity.” He added that diplomacy must always aim to improve the lives of everyday people.

A win for African travellers

This announcement marks a significant win for African integration. Many Africans still face barriers to travel within their own continent. Therefore, agreements like this one are crucial. They effectively remove unnecessary borders and build stronger connections between countries.

This move also follows Ghana’s bold decision earlier this year. Ghana made headlines by opening its borders to all African passport holders. That proactive step positioned Ghana as one of the few African nations actively pushing for free movement across the continent. This aligns perfectly with a key goal of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

With this new Morocco agreement, Ghana continues to lead by example. The nation demonstrates that open borders can drive economic growth, cultural exchange, and regional solidarity.
