Where to propose in Africa 2025

Are you dreaming of becoming a 2025 bride or groom? Now is the time to start planning your proposal—or dropping hints about the kind of proposal you truly want (if you know, you know). Africa is packed with breathtaking and romantic locations to pop the question. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most picture-perfect places on the continent to ask your partner to spend forever with you.

Cape Town, South Africa

When it comes to proposals, Cape Town serves up endless dreamy options.

  • Wine farms: If you and your partner love wine and gourmet food, a vineyard proposal is the way to go. Book a private tour or plan a picnic proposal in a scenic spot.
  • Boulders Bay: If you both adore the ocean and penguins, this is a dreamy, one-of-a-kind spot. Go early in the morning before 10 AM to avoid crowds and get great lightning with the penguins.
  • Table Mountain and Sunset Rock:

These locations have the best views from the top. Propose at sunset to make it even better.

Things to note:

  • The South African summer is from November to April and makes the best weather for a proposal.
  • If you’re setting up a fancy decor arrangement, check with management about necessary permits.
  • Table Mountain can be windy and is only accessible by cable car ride or hike. If this will be inconvenient for you and your partner, consider the other options; Boulders Bay and the wine farms are easily accessible by car
  • Nigerian passport holders need a South African visa, but the e-visa platform makes it convenient.

Jardin d’Essai du Hamma, Algeria

This lush botanical garden in Algiers is a fairytale-like setting for a heartfelt proposal. Plan for March to May or September to November for the best weather.

Book a private picnic in the French Garden section or near the lake, and propose in the late afternoon or golden hour when the crowds thin out.

Note: Nigerian passport holders need a visa for Algeria.

Okavango Delta, Botswana

If you both love nature, the Okavango Delta is perfect. The best time to visit is June to October, Botswana’s dry season and prime time to see the stunning wildlife. To propose, you can arrange a private canoe ride at sunset, complete with a surprise picnic.

But if your partner isn’t a fan of water or is scared of wildlife, a luxury safari lodge with a starlit private dinner is an equally dreamy alternative.

Pyramids of Giza, Egypt

An iconic place for an iconic request. The pyramids of Giza have served as the backdrop for many proposals. You can add yours to the list if you and your partner share a love for Egypt or history.

The best time to head there is in the cooler months of October to April. Although cool, it can still get hot so arrive before 10 AM  and plan for a sunrise proposal.

If your partner doesn’t like sandy or windy conditions, a Nile River proposal in Aswan is just as, or even more gorgeous.

Afterwards, you can enjoy a Nile dinner cruise or visit a luxury rooftop restaurant overlooking the pyramids.

Giraffe Manor and Diani Beach, Kenya

These are two dreamy Kenyan spots that will leave your partner speechless.

Giraffe Manor is perfect for a breakfast proposal where giraffes will literally be there to cheer you on. Book well in advance, as it fills up fast.

At Diani beach, a dreamy sunset proposal with lanterns and a message in the sand is as romantic as it gets.

Note: Kenya is visa-free for Nigerian passport holders, but an online ETA may be required.

Mauritius

Mauritius is one of the dreamiest locations to go on bended knee. Head there during the dry season from May to December and you’d have a plethora of options to choose from.

You could plan a private sunset proposal dinner at a 5-star resort, on a catamaran cruise or at chamarel, the seven-coloured earth. All are beautiful options that are bound to elicit even more endearment from your partner.

Afterwards, you could explore the waterfalls, and enjoy all the island has to offer.

Luckily for Nigerian lovebirds, Mauritius is visa-free.

Morocco

Morocco is one-of-a-kind for proposals.

Plan a hot air balloon sunrise or sunset ride over the Atlas Mountains to pop the question.

Or book a private morning tour at the serene Jardin Majorelle or one of Morocco’s historic courtyards, El Badi or Bahia Palace. They are all swoon-worthy.

The best time to head there is in March to May and September to November.

While Nigerian passport holders need a visa to Morocco this can be done online via the Evisa platform.
