Qatar National Day 2024 inaugurated with grandeur

The 2024 Qatar National Day celebrations were officially inaugurated at Darb Al Saai on Tuesday, December 10, marking the beginning of an eight-day celebration of the nation’s heritage and achievements. The event, held at the sprawling 150,000sqm venue in Umm Salal, was graced by the presence of high-profile dignitaries, including HE the Minister of Culture, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.

A celebration of growth and heritage

The inauguration highlights Qatar’s remarkable journey from its humble beginnings as a pearl-diving hub to its current status as a global leader in innovation. and economic development. On the National Day, Qataris reflect on their country’s progress while honouring the values and traditions that underpin its identity.

This annual event aims to strengthen national identity and authentic Qatari values through activities and programmes targeting all segments of society, thereby bridging the gap between current generations and their ancestral heritage,” said HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani during his opening address.

Engaging activities and attractions

The public can look forward to an array of 15 main events featuring 104 activities. These events highlight various aspects of Qatari culture and heritage. Among the attractions are the Qatari House, the main stage, the Puppet Theater, the Desert Museum, and the Qatari Music Museum. New this year is the ‘Sana Qatar’ exhibit, a digital art showcase featuring immersive video experiences powered by advanced display technologies.

Visitors can enjoy daily performances on the main stage, including:

  • Three poetry evenings
  • Cultural and religious symposiums
  • Plays with multiple performances
  • Children’s chorus and storytelling sessions
  • Four operetta shows

Additionally, cultural programs such as “Nagham wa Hikaya” (Melody and Story) and collaborations with the Qatar University Alumni Association are set to enrich the experience.

Culinary and family-centric activities

A highlight of the celebrations is the live cooking competition, ‘Qatari Flavours,’ which showcases the nation’s culinary identity. Participants will vie for top prizes of QR80,000($22,000), QR60,000($16,000), and QR40,000($11,000).

Family-friendly areas, including interactive games, marketplaces, and art pavilions, ensure that there is something for everyone. Visitors can also explore Liwan Al-Fann (Art Pavilion), Al-Bidaa, Al-Maqtar, and Al-Shaqab.

What to expect as a visitor

Tourists visiting Qatar during this period will experience the country’s spirit of celebration firsthand. Visitors are welcomed daily from 3 pm to 11 pm.

For international guests, the National Day period is an excellent time to witness Qatar’s hospitality and evolution. 

Qatar’s National Day festivities will continue until December 18.
